A Family Tradition to Start Today! ……Gingerbread Houses Out Of Graham Crackers!
For the past 7 years, we have been making Gingerbread houses out of graham crackers the week before Christmas. The kids look forward to this tradition, and when December rolls around, begin to ask when they will be doing it!
This is a cost-effective tradition, that has proven to be a winner with my four kids, now age 13, 10, 8, and 5!
We buy all the products ahead of time. Usually a box of graham crackers per kid, and an assortment of candy, sprinkles, chocolates, and marshmallows. I have a great royal icing / frosting recipe if you also want to start this tradition with your kids! You can find it here. You can even find it under the recipes section of this site.
My husband and youngest daughter decided to work together. Abby ate all the candy, while my husband followed her creative direction! They made a perfect team constructing their gingerbread houses! Bella decided to make a house that resembled a stop sign, and later called it a store and not a house.
Matt made an elaborate house with porches and railing made out of pretzel sticks. Brianna made her original house too heavy, and decided that it would be a pool to fill all her candy in!
Here are their finished products! Shortly after we let the oldest two smash them so they could take them back to their moms. The youngest could eat a few pieces, but had to leave them intact.
Abby was impressed with her house! Daddy and she make a great team!
